Positive Discipline for Preschoolers

Six-Week Series for Parents/Caregivers of Children 3-5 Years Old

Thursday evenings, Nov. 2 - Dec. 14th (skipping Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving)
7:30-9:30 pm

Are you feeling frustrated by your preschooler's sudden willfulness?  Difficulty transitioning?  Never-ending bedtime routines?  Whining and selective hearing?  Uncooperative attitude?

Postitive Discipline is for parents who are looking for long-term parenting skills that encourage their children to become more responsible, independent, and lifelong problem solvers.
Positive Discipline incorporates respectful methods based on kindness and firmness that help parents get to the core of their child's behavior.

Based on the work of Jane Nelsen, Alfred Adler, and Rudolf Dreikurs, this six-week workshop will utilize weekly assigned readings, journaling, and group discussions as we discuss ways we can:

  • Engage children in the problem-solving process
  • Find alternatives to relying on rewards and punishments to motivate your child's behavior
  • Find alternatives to punishments and "time-out"
  • Create more peace and harmony at home with simple solutions to getting out the door, getting to bed, and other challenging situations
  • Put your child on the path to independence and self-confidence

Testimonials

"I have been amazed at some of the learnings that have come from this series.  My daughter, now four, has always been quite demanding and required a lot of one-on-one attention.  I didn't realize that I was reinforcing this behavior by either feeling guilty and so giving her more attention, or by getting frustrated by these whining and irritating behaviors.  Through this course, I have learned to help her see herself as capable of being on her own and/or contributing positively to our family.  I didn't realize that I was actually raising her to lack confidence in her own abilities and to believe that she must always be the center of attention.  Now we are all seeing her as capable and she is seeing herself in this way, and as someone that instead of constantly [needing] to be served, someone that is wanting to serve others!"
- Julie, parent of a four-year-old

"Our 6-week [Positive Discipline for Preschoolers] class was so valuable!  Rebecca is a smart, caring, fearless leader who taught us many useful parenting skills, always with compassion.  She also helped build a wonderful community.  I'm delighted that our group is continuing to meet monthly, to carry forward the learning and support.  I cannot say enough about how beneficial it has been, paying dividends far beyond what I expected!
- Amy, parent of a four-year-old
